When God feels far away what do you tell yourself are the reasons why? Do your thoughts begin to swim around every mistake you have made in the week? Many believe God is far away from them because of their imperfections. Many more believe they can't hear God because of their performance.
Is my doctrine the problem?
As a born again christian we have the ability to live out what we believe. Our inner talk and thought life produces an expression if we are not conscious of it. It is true out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. (Matt 12:34) One major thing that influences your inner talk life is your doctrine. What you actually believe will produce certain outcomes in your life. Paul understood how dangerous it is for you as a christian to allow this inward life to go unchecked and uncultivated. He wrote to Timothy this for your instruction,
"Watch your life and doctrine closely." 1Tim 4:16
You may be great at watching your life but have you watched your doctrine lately? I have found that many have struggled with their inward reality due to a lack of correct doctrine leaving them feeling distant from God. Leaving them void of the supernatural, the greater works Christ spoke of. (John 14:12)
Let me encourage you today you were saved by GRACE. What does this mean to you? Grace means there was nothing you can do to obtain the object that grace provided. This means there is nothing you can do to lose that object. This belief is a fundamental doctrine every believe should have.
Let me ask you, Is grace a reality of your inward talk? If it is not, you will often feel like you've lost close relationship with God. Or that it is because of your mistakes that you can't move in the supernatural power of God. You will feel as though you are not qualified to be in the position, job, leadership role God chose you to be in.
When your inward talk is constantly centered around negativity in this way you can be sure doctrine has become a problem. You have actually substituted the gospel of christ implanted into you with a false doctrine of religion.
"O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified.2 I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law, or by hearing with faith?" Gal 3:1
"For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it!" (2Cor 11:4)
This type of substitution was common to the early church. Paul called it a bewitching. I believe that this is still happening today as many depart from proper biblical teaching into doctrines of works and the law. They are putting up with something less than what God intended.
When a believer feels and thinks to himself on a daily basis their mistakes & sin are the reason they can't hear God, be used by God, then they will do whatever they can to work a solution. They will pray more, fast more, work more, try harder. These things are good but they don't gain us relationship or a seat at God's table on any given day. ***Relationship will naturally give you a want to pray more.
We must always remember Christ worked a solution over 2,000 years ago.
Do we need to make every effort to crucify the flesh, YES, but if we don't pick up God's mercy every morning believing we are righteous which means having right-standing with God then we make God's grace of null effect.
You will never go for that serving position on the worship team if you believe your mistakes disqualify you from closeness with God. It is when we spend time in closeness with God that we have a revelation of our identity and our future.
You will never try that business idea if you think God isn't behind you because of your mistakes or because you sinned last week.
You will even struggle to show up for church or eGroups because inwardly you secretly believe God must punish you by scolding you with distance and a mean look. **This would be manipulation which is a form of witchcraft!
Say this with me "I am the rightousness of God in Christ Jesus" (2Cor 5:21). You may have been taught that sin separates you from God and it is true it did but now you are joined with God by His Spirit. Do not attempt by your thoughts to separate what God has joined (Mark 10:9)
Since you are joined together with God go forward in boldness and confidence. Once you believe in the grace of God you will experience the joys of running fully after God not focused on your mistakes. Now you can put yourself in better positions to succeed, why? Because you were bought at a price. You no longer have to continue being in places where sin may abound. Go and do what God has said you can do, He is behind you!
In His service,
